  • Vision of Europe

In collaboration with the Commission-funded Hub in Active European Citizenship in University College Cork and with support of CoR member Kieran McCarthy (IE/EA), Cork City Council hosted a Europe Day Festival in UCC's Devere Hall on 5 May 2024.

This expo style event provided fun and educational opportunities for primary school children to learn more about the EU, and the role it plays in Irish life. Core themes reflected in the agreed programming included the key EU values of democracy; equality; peace; inclusivity, and multilingualism as well as an imagined EU.

The event was attended by 500 primary school children coming from 16 primary and 2 post-primary schools, who are engaged with the Hub's extensive and Commission-funded outreach programmes. There were also 20 visiting students and 2 teachers from Spain and 10 visiting teachers from Germany. 20 third-level student also participated in the event.

The successful event focused on 4 main topics:

1) Introducing European Political Issues.

2) EU/Local Representative Interface.

3) Cross-national Contribution.

4) Cross-level Learning.
