Gavà Circular is a strategy based on innovative actions to make the municipality a more liveable space, with innovation and digitalisation at its core, tackling climate change and improving the quality of life and well-being of its inhabitants.

Gavà Circular is the result of a public-private partnership between the Municipal Council, Cetaqua and Aigües de Barcelona, which aims to create a culture based on sustainable development through implementation and actions under the pillars of water – energy – waste, within the framework of the following policies:

  • Circular and Competitive Economy Day (the 6th edition was held in 2023), showcasing innovative good practices in the circular economy.
  • Creation of HUB ECCUS: to contribute and advance in the innovative transition to the circular economy.
  • Development of Recaigua: an intelligent non-drinkable groundwater recharge point for street irrigation and cleaning.    Exhibition of the Regreen urban garden in Gavà, to promote the use of reclaimed water in urban agriculture.
  • Calculation of the city's water footprint: balance of impact and opportunities in relation to the water footprint Gavà Circular has not only made it possible to boost the circular economy in the city - it has also created a culture based on sustainable development where actions are taken to ensure the growth, sustainability and resilience of local areas.

Moreover, the Gavà Circular project won an award at the 2022 World Water Congress Exhibition, in the Governance, Institutions and Social Enterprise category, for its potential to create a culture based on sustainable development in the water-energy-waste sectors.
