The Programme brings together very valuable experiences and practices, providing a recipe for success for integration of investment, environmental and social measures, without which no project can deliver real regeneration or a genuine revival.
Łódź is a pioneer in Poland when it comes to regeneration on such a large scale. The aim of the programme is to revitalise Łódź's historical centre by bringing together the most valuable historical districts within a single area which has been regenerated economically, socially and from the point of view of urban planning, and which is attractive as a place to live and invest. The work carried out under the Łódź Centre Regeneration Programme has yielded a number of valuable experiences which Łódź is keen to share with others. Łódź leads the international project URBAN-REGENERATION-MIX, with a total value of almost EUR 600 000 (including EUR 475 000 of EU funding).
The project is co-financed by the EU under the URBACT III programme. URBAN-REGENERATION-MIX is an international network for the transfer of good practices on civic engagement and increased public participation in urban regeneration. The project involves seven partner cities from across Europe that are facing the challenges posed by degraded areas, including for the people who live there. Together with Łódź, the transfer network consists of: Braga, Bologna, Zagreb, Toulouse, Baena and Birmingham. The starting point for setting up the network was the award of the URBACT Good Practice label to Łódź for its regeneration of Księży Młyn. In the second phase of the project, however, the experience-sharing platform has included innovative solutions used by Łódź during the regeneration of Łódź city centre.
