Calculating a carbon footprint for crops could be a key tool to help achieve more sustainable, environmentally-friendly farming and thus mitigate climate change in agriculture.

The LIFE Agromitiga project aims to contribute to the transition to a low-carbon farming system, producing validated results which can be applied to the EU’s commitments under global climate alliances.

The project comprises a total of 24 measures, to be implemented over four years, seeking to introduce carbon sequestration farming techniques and include them in a carbon footprint quantification methodology, and to develop an application to assess the carbon content of agricultural land using mobile phones.
