Piotr Całbecki elected President of the Commission for Natural Resources of the European Committee of the Regions

The Marshal of Kujawsko-Pomorskie, elected unanimously, will lead the work on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the European Preparedness Strategy and the European Health Union (EHU) for the next two and a half years: The future of agriculture must be our priority. 

Stable food supplies, safeguarding farmers' incomes, protecting the environment, the availability, affordability and innovativeness of medical supplies are the topics dealt with by the Commission for Natural Resources (NAT) of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), which represents the voice of the regions and cities of the 27 Member States of the European Union.    

Piotr Całbecki was elected NAT chair during the inaugural meeting of the new mandate 2025-2030. Całbecki will preside over the Commission for the next two-and-a-half years. In 2027, new elections will be held to elect a president to lead NAT in the second half of the legislature. 

“The main political priority of the NAT commission during my presidency will be to adapt the common agricultural policy to the new challenges faced by farmers in our regions. Agriculture is a pillar of European economic, social and territorial cohesion and we need to strengthen the resilience of our regions in the face of all these challenges: price volatility, food security, low incomes, generational gap, rural depopulation, connectivity, adaptation to climate change, droughts and floods.The vision for the future of our agriculture presented by the European Commission this week is a first step in the right direction, but we need to turn all good intentions into concrete benefits, and this will not be possible if our regions do not lead this vision and do not have the necessary resources."

• Roberto Ciambetti, President of the Regional Council of the Italian Region of Veneto and Fernando López Miras, President of Murcia, Spain were elected Vice-Chairs of the NAT Commission.   
• In 2023, an external meeting of the NAT commission and a conference on the food crisis took place in Toruń.  

• In June 2024, the CoR adopted an opinion on The future of the Common Agricultural Policy with Piotr Całbecki as rapporteur.
