Gender equality is a fundamental European value and an essential condition for resilient, representative and inclusive democracies, yet women remain underrepresented in political leadership and decision-making at all levels of government. As part of the European Gender Equality Week 2026, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is cultivate the foundations for change: on 4 November 2026 Young Elected Politicians from across the EU will come together to listen, exchange and draw inspiration from leaders who have shaped Europe’s public life.
This session will bring together inspirational leaders from across Europe, who will share their personal experiences of entering and navigating public life, taking decisions and exercising leadership. Through an open reflection on the opportunities and challenges they have encountered, their successes and the lessons they have learned along the way, the discussion will offer participants a first-hand perspective on political leadership and serve as a source of inspiration and encouragement for a new generation of women to engage in public life and take on leadership roles.
Participants will also be invited to take the floor, share their perspectives and reflect on how the lessons and inspiration of today’s leaders can be translated into practical action.
