The project has been key to launching productive cooperation between policy-makers, businesses and researchers to design an overall framework of objectives and priority in the circular economy field.
The project centres on expanding the circular economy by comparing the pilot areas in terms of identifying regulatory diversity regarding landfills, by-products, recovery, end of waste and industrial symbiosis and creating instruments and examples that can be replicated in different geographical areas.
Each of the four project phases sets out to produce tools that can be used by others. The four phases are as follows: 1. mapping flows of raw materials and waste; 2. identifying unexploited flows; 3. creating tools for economic and ecological analysis on the use of secondary raw materials; 4. pilot-scale testing and fine-tuning of models.
