Could the River Jamor become an ecological corridor?
That is the hope of the city of Sintra, which has teamed up with the Oeiras and Amadora and the company Parques de Sintra - Monte da Lua. Together, they are developing the Eixo Verde Azul (EVA) project – the 'Green Blue Axis' – by creating and consolidating ecologically friendly spaces along the river.

The "Green and Blue Axis" (EVA) programme is currently being implemented pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 14 July 2016 between the Municipalities de Sintra, Oeiras and Amadora and the Parques de Sintra - Monte da Lua, SA company. Within the scope of the programme, the renaturation and regeneration of the banks of the river Jamor and its tributaries is being carried out, as well as regeneration of the area surrounding National Palace of Queluz, with the aim of creating a cluster of green spaces.

The River Jamor Green and Blue Axis project establishes an integrated intervention strategy aimed at creating and consolidating an ecological axis along the River Jamor, based on regularisation of the river and protection against flooding, as well as ensuring the quality of water bodies, regenerating the surrounding public space, improving people's access to nature and historical-cultural heritage and creating a smooth mobility circuit through the municipalities of Sintra, Amadora and Oeiras.

Some results will have immediate benefits, such as re-wilding and improving the quality improvement of the river, ensuring control of the water flow control, and the completion of a pedestrian and cycling network. Other results will emerge in the longer term. These include reducing the carbon footprint, increasing the area's resilience to climate change, and creating new public spaces and urban park. The project has already acted as a catalyst for inter-municipal collaboration.
