The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is drafting an opinion on the "Union of Skills Strategy".
Europe is at a critical moment when it comes to equipping its citizens with the right skills for the future. Employers across the Union face difficulties in recruiting the talent they need, a challenge amplified by demographic change and an aging population. This skills gap threatens Europe's competitiveness, growth, and innovation capacity.
The Union of Skills Strategy seeks to provide a comprehensive response to these challenges, building on the momentum of the European Year of Skills. The strategy aims to retrain and upskill the existing workforce, enhance the labour market participation of underrepresented groups, and provide targeted support to regions confronted with depopulation and persistent skills shortages. In parallel, it seeks to reinforce mobility opportunities for both workers and learners within the European Union, while also strengthening the Union's capacity to attract and retain talent from outside.
Following a short introduction by the rapporteur, participants will be invited to present their perspectives and engage in a discussion on the main priorities of the Union of Skills Strategy. The meeting will be held in English.
