On 4 December 2026, Giovanni Malanchini (IT/ECR) will organise an EU Local Dialogue in Vertova on “The Right to Stay: Opportunities, services and future of the communities in the Seriana and Scalve Valleys.”

The dialogue will explore what is needed to ensure that living in a mountain valley or small municipality remains a genuine choice, supported by opportunities, accessible services and prospects for the future. Bringing together institutions, young people, businesses, researchers and local development organisations, the discussion will address essential services and accessibility, employment and training, housing, agricultural innovation and participation in public decision-making.

The event will connect the challenges facing the Seriana and Scalve Valleys with the wider European debate on the right to stay, territorial cohesion and the future of rural and mountain areas. Participants will discuss European good practices, national policies for mountain areas, rural economies and innovation, as well as the role of young people in shaping the future of smaller communities.

A round-table discussion will bring together representatives of local authorities, academia, businesses, cooperatives and local development organisations to identify practical conditions that can make the Seriana and Scalve Valleys attractive places in which to live, work and build a future.
