The project demonstrates that even small local communities, with thoughtful planning, strong partnerships, and a clear vision, can effectively implement sustainable mobility systems that prioritise accessibility, environmental sustainability, and social justice.
Launched by the Municipality of Radlje ob Dravi in 2025, the FURA Radlje project is a pioneering initiative—first of its kind in Slovenia—focused on innovative, inclusive, and sustainable mobility for all residents.
Originating from the community, it tackles challenges like transport exclusion, an ageing population, and high transport costs, treating mobility as a crucial aspect of social justice.
Mayor Alan Bukovnik emphasised the project's wider social significance: “FURA is more than infrastructure; it embodies fairness, inclusion, and consideration for future generations.”
* FURA, in local dialect, means “ride” or “transport,” and also conveys "to drive."
