Quotes

Donatella PORZI (IT/Renew), regional councillor for the region of Umbria and CoR rapporteur of an opinion entitled ‘Stopping gender-based violence – cities and regions leading the way’, adopted on 28 November 2023: “Local and regional authorities are an essential part of the solution in stopping gender-based violence. But we need the right tools – clear data, concrete measures to create safe offline and online public spaces, and long-term, educational measures that create social change”.

Tanya HRISTOVA (BG/EPP), mayor of Gabrovo municipality and chair of the CoR commission for social policy, education, employment, research and culture (SEDEC): "Violence against women is a human rights violation, too common in our societies. It is both a cause and a consequence of gender inequality. For the first time, we now have a Directive as EU-wide framework of prevention, protection and prosecution. We need its rapid transposition in all Member States to support our local action to ensure the dignity and safety of all women and girls in our communities."
