The project aims to promote "zero-kilometre", low-emissions energy production, with a view to further exploring issues related to composting and energy recovery at company and/or consortium level and developing a micro-model which can then be replicated across the local area.
The need to resolve agronomic problems (particularly in the wine, olive and fruit-growing sectors) and to ensure a supply of low-cost raw materials, together with the gradual improvement of harvesting techniques and technologies, have led to the development of an efficient and innovative model for pruning, which involves harvesting and using pruning residues to generate energy, while reducing emissions as much as possible.
The aim of the Biomass A+ project is to involve all key players in the local area and to bolster continuity of the supply chain. At operational level, it is essential to establish a harvesting protocol for agricultural businesses. Once the harvest is complete, the material management phase begins. These activities aim to promote locally-sourced ("zero-kilometre"), low-emissions energy production.
The project seeks to capitalise on the results of this research in order to further explore issues related to composting and energy recovery at company or consortium level, developing a micro-model which can subsequently be replicated across the local area.
