This EU Local Dialogue is organised by Karl Wilfing (AT/EPP) in Klosterneuburg, Austria, and is targeted at students of the Higher Federal Teaching Institute and the Federal Office for Viticulture and Pomology.

In 2026, the role of young people in agriculture has become increasingly important as climate pressures intensify, rural regions seek renewal, and global food systems face growing demands. The event will bring together around one hundred participants for an engaging exchange between students, regional political representatives, and specialists from the agricultural sector, inviting them to discuss how youth can help shape a more innovative and resilient future for farming.

Young people today bring digital confidence, creativity, and a readiness to adopt new approaches - from precision farming and smart technologies to climate-friendly and nature positive practices. Their involvement reaches far beyond traditional farming, opening opportunities in agribusiness, processing, marketing, services, and various forms of entrepreneurship. As environmental challenges become increasingly complex, the contribution of the next generation will be essential in building sustainable food systems and revitalising rural economies.

The programme will begin with the arrival of the panel participants, followed by a field visit that will give students a direct look at local agricultural practices. Speakers and organisers will share lunch together before engaging in a local dialogue with students, potentially joined by additional guests from Lower Austria.

The aim of this Local Dialogue is not only to highlight the challenges facing the sector but to inspire students by showing the pivotal role they can play in shaping the agricultural landscape of tomorrow.
